Sin City

Saw Sin City this weekend....and its an awesome movie. The movie is based on the comic novels by the same name and you do feel like you are watching a comic book. Directed by Robert Rodriguez (of Desparado, Once upon a time in Mexico fame) and Frank Miller, who is actually the author of the novels. Quentin Terentino is a guest director, but you can easily feel his presence. No doubt it has its share of blood and gory...but then what else do u expect from Quentin's movies? Its basically three stories weaved into one movie and as in comic books, the stories are narrated by the main characters and I felt that made it more fun. Sin City is a blast. I loved everything about it, even body parts getting slashed at and blood spurted out everywhere. From beginning to end, its highly imaginative and stylized visuals are absolutely incredible. The movie is in Black and White with an occasional splash of a bright color, streaking red or yellow. Its a must see for all dies hard fans of Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction but those weak at heart...stay away!

Well, the only other interesting thing I did, was that I had gone to Chicago on Saturday. Of course, if you are a desi in Chicago, how can you not go to Devon Street??? Had yummy spicy chats followed by delicious dinner and ended with a juicy Kalkatta masala pan. Oh the joy of having pan...sadly it got over too soon. Enjoyed it coz I was having pan after a year - the last time incidently, being on my last trip to Chicago on Apr 2004.

Ok, I agree with now that Sin City is a classic movie. No, I haven't seen it but seen the review by my favourite reviewers "Ebert and Roeper" and they both gave it two-thumbs up. So, this movie is in my must-see list. I like your review and yea, I myself have become Quentin's fan after seeing Kill Bill. The movie I heard has been extremely true to the comic strip which is generally very rare.

I am glad you had fun in Chicago and had some good India food. I haven't eaten "paan" for 4 years, go figure...

Sin City... I am not sure. But Chicago trip sounds great. I think you end up eating more delicious Indian food there than us here!

Hi Colors, no clue about the film, but u hv put across the points very well.

Will wait for Sanjay Gupta to get 'inspired' by it and make it with Sanjay Dutt ;-)

LOL, i agree with Chandu, cant believe that the simple humble 'paan' assumes so much importance... (reminds me of that scene in Aa Ab Laut Chale, where the paan was described as 'indian mouth freshner' he he he ) ...

Boomerang..u got it..its my dear V who got me interested in all this. :-)

Ricky..yes, they say they've managed to adapt the comic book very closely. Havent read the novels but seeing the movie, one can understand what that means. Hey you ought to see Pulp Fiction too! Samuel Jackson and John Travolta are awesome.

Poor you..hehe atleast I am better off than you..staying close to Chicago :-)

Anumita...:-)
What happens is mostly we have some veggies in our group and the only way they can eat decent food outside is in an Indian place. So we end up eating Indian when we r out. But no one complains :-)

DJ..thanks! But no!! Please I hope no one does that. I cant imagine how this movie would be in apna desi style!!!

Yes, me too never gave importance to small things like paan, saunf, Thumsup, Limca, Frooti, Maggi..the list is long. You should see how we raid the Indian grocery store :-)

Well said Colors, while replying to DJ's comment, about raiding Indian stores. I mean in India "Limca" was for sick people, koi kadar hee nahin thee and here toh when I see Limca with Thumbs- up, toh "Dil main Kuch Kuch Hota hain"...ha ha.

Maggi was and will reamin unbeatable. Infact when I was in India and they changed the texture of Maggi somewhere around in 1998, I was so mad and did'nt ate Maggi for 2 days but suddenly realised that's the only thing I can cook...

Where's your cowboy-hat country girl?...;)

Staying in Indiana ... hey colors, you are truly a country girl.

That state is really boring and nothing happens there... was there at a friends place and gosh..you actually have to think for fun places ?

Ricky..:-) I am a bigger fan of Thumsup than Limca...but yes, after coming here I drink 'em both with equal relish. And oooh I still love Maggi. It used to be our staple food in the hostel. I mean who could eat that horrible hostel food? So for us it was always 'Maggi jindabad'

Hi Marlin...yes u r right, Indiana is a boring place. But then if you have friends, then any boring place can be fun..the same way if u r alone in a great city..u still feel bored.

The good thing abt this place though is the location...almost all the good places in US is within driving distance..so its cool as we can always plan trips on weekends.

Ricky/Marlin...c'mon the country girl thing was just a joke! I hope u dont imagine me with hats and boots..and all that!!! Me just a simple Indian girl :-\

Marlin..care to leave ur link?

Ok here's how I imagine you.

You are wearing a big cowboy hat, a rugged brown leather jacket with Harley Davidson written on the back, a white frilly shirt, a tight leather pants, a belt with a big buckle saying "Indiana Rules", big brown shoes with ur pants tucked inside the shoes, living on a farm-house with 2 horses and a duck, chewing a toothpick, with a Leo-gun tied on your waist and saying "Whatcha doin'?" in a thick Texan accent. Am I close enough?
