Socha Na Tha

Saw Socha Na Tha....and sachi! Maine bhi socha na tha ki movie itni bakwaas hogi (pardon my hindi if its incorrect - still cant figure out if any darned thing is a male or a female). The movie was pathetic to say the least. As the movie continued, all my friends left and I was left all alone to complete it. The problem with me is that I cant leave any movie incomplete... however boring that might be.

Been keeping myself tired last couple of days since I finally joined the gym. Just 2 days of exercising and my legs are hurting so bad. However I am determined to stick on and keep on going... atleast till I fit back to my old clothes from India. Those were the days when 'small' was the right size and I want to get back to that.

The first day we joined the gym, me and V went for grocery shopping and found ourselves buying oatmeals and fruits and health bars :-). We were looking at the calorie count in each pack and deciding whether to buy that or not. I even had Veggie Delite salad in Subway. Felt pretty good about myself. But the next day I felt so hungry at lunch, I went and grabbed buffalo chicken wings at BW3 :-( Sigh!!!

Today is 3 of my friends birthday. One is in India and two here. So have been invited for a good dinner. See, when even your friends are not with you while dieting, what can one possibly do??

C'mon Rash..you think my will to exercise is gonna over ride my love for grub? I am just 'trying' for now. It aint so severe. Hmm...BTW, your wedding is the key factor that got me going...I need to look good, dont I? Plus I need to fit in my desi dress since u said 'no' to my usual clothes :D

I had no plans to watch that movie anyways, so I would be spared from torture that you endured for all of us...BUHAHHHHAAAAAAAAA.

Gym, that's nice. The first few days are always hard. Infact stats shows that if you can go regularly for 1 month chances are you will stick with the routine, since all your muscles will get used to the strain and exercising. It's something like brushing teeth in the night. I can't sleep, even if I fall asleep while watching TV, I would get up at whatever time (sometimes even at 2 or 3) to brush my teeth.

Oh, I only eat healthy these days, no white bread only 7-grains or more, no icecream for deserts only Oatmeal bars, no coke (ok one on weekend was coz I had'nt had any coke for last 2 months, so just felt like drinking it) only fresh juice, fruits, milk, cereals...

Have a nice Birthday dinner and eat one cake piece from my side too...Ok, make it two...

Best wishes to all your friends.

i think it's so sad that u got invitations for lunch when u r on diet.. :( y can't they postpone the parties till you complete ur diet time. phew that may not work.. testing time buddy hehe

its not that hard, colors. first of all, make sure u eat something every 3 hours or so, so that ur not starving when its time for a meal and u dont stuff yourself. A good breakfst, a snack 3 hrs later, lunch, teatime snack and dinner- all important. i have not cut anything out from my diet, i just exercise regularly and drink lots of water and eat at those times and i managed to lose around 15 lbs over the past 4 months; and i dont feel like i gave up on anything. i am now back to my college days weight and pretty darn pleased with myself!

thanks for your wishes Ricks, and yaar colors you do not have to do that for my wedding, by the way I asked for traditional clothes coz you pretty girl, I am just waiting to see you in traditional clothes:-)!!
and hey RS great tips, can you elaborate more on exercise routines, did you go to gym? or just walk? or jog? what kind of exercise you didn't fee stressful like cardio or weights?
please help!!

Hi Rashmi:
I am very lazy about exercise usually and get bored easily with it and thats why I do something different every day. That keeps my interest. Some days I walk, some days I jog- always on a different route; somedays I cycle, some days I watch an exercise video and follow that, or skip, or just go out and play with the kids somedays I go for a walk on my lunchbreak from work; I just vary it every day so that it doesnt become like a boring routine.i dont do weights and all that- i just do my own thing..heh..and i eat everything, but in small portions. basically i make sure my plate is half filled with salad, either rice or roti and a bowlful of daal and some vegetable or meat or whatever. i drink milk twice a day and drink a lot of water coz im always thirsty. and as i said before, i eat 3 meals a day and two snacks; im not very fond of fruit so i dont eat much of it which is bad; i eat yoghurt or cheese or a bagel or sandwich at snacktime.well! i hope this is useful. gimme a shout if u need more info. and i will be happy to help u out

ANNNNd another thing- fad diets DO NOT work or any kind of drastic diet like cabbage soup or Atkins or South Beach unless you just want to kickstart your wt.loss program. It has to be a lifestyle change and no amount of dieting will make that happen. It just boosts you for a while and the minute you get off it, you put on weight again. I have learnyt this the hard way and over many years, so trust me!

2 DJ, is Ayesha the name of the heroine? All she does in the movie is smile!!! As for gym, I know...for me this is the 1st time ever that I am exercising, so feeling pretty excited :D Hope the excitement lasts.
Thanks for the wishes...Happy Baishakhi to you too

Deepak Jeswal said...

Yep Ayesha Takia is the heroine's name. She was in Tarzan:The Wonder Car and Dil Maange More as well. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award also... But, isnt her smile great? Upar se khule baal...wah! And I think she performed well...as for my views on the film, had done a review earlier, u can check that out under Film Reviews category :-)

All the best for the gym. Some era ago even i had joined one ;-) But, now i think I will follow RS ki advice above...sounds cool and practical.

Chandu...I wud suggest not to watch specially when u have sleepy friends with you :-). As for the diet...yesterday i had a hearty meal of lots of home made fried stuffs :-(

Colors said...

Hey RS..ur suggestions sounds so good. Problem with me is that I just eat twice a day. Breakfast is impossible since I getup just in time (some times not even in time) to reach my office!! I was actually planning to eat less but more often...and so had bought the snack bars etc.....but...!!!

As for fad diets..u r right. Just yesterday we were talking abt what they call (i think) is the GM diet. Where u kinda starve for 7 days. Some of my frens have tried and were able to last at the most till 4th day!

Rash, if u want that, I can email it to you :P

Hey RS thanks for all the good suggestions, I appreciate that. and colors to tell you the truth, I have been doing my own starving routines for long time. I once used to weight like a big fat cow...I lost 13 kgs in 2 weeks by my own starving plan. I did that once again during engineering to loose 4 kgs and the results are bad in long terms!!
I am better off plum than dieting to create problem for my health. You know there is so much hype in US for the eating disorders, frankly it's there in India too! I'll tell you about my friend Y, she was my school friend and she wanted to get attention of a guy over some other girl, we were 16 then and she lost 10 kgs in a week by drinking glucose water everyday for lunch, dinner and breakfast!! After a week her mom found out and was really shocked!! all that for getting into some skimpy clothes to lure the guy!! that's torture for someone that young. One more friend S had only one 1/2 chapati mean everyday for 2 weeks to loose extra weight. I am not going that path again,no more fad diets for me!!

U find the movie pathetic??
I found it pretty ok..and timepass..
Hmm...hota hai..

OK about starvation diets- when you starve your body, it goes into panic mode and holds on to every bit of weight that it can; so its hard to lose weight that way. As I said before, it has to be a total lifestyle change. No need to get obsessive; just take it one day at a time and follow my suggestions and come back to me after a month and tell me what happened. OK? :)

dang it...that was me again-

Ricky...sorry yaar once again missed replyin to ur comments. Pls dont mind :) Yes, thse few days r a pain to me...every inch of my body is aching. I am just waiting for a week to get over...maybe by then it'll be better? But I certainly feel good about myself and plan to stick to it.
Thanks...I did have 2 pieces of cake like u suggested :-)

Gaurav...actually someone said its like 'Style' so was expecting that kind of timepass. Found this one to be extremely 'kheechofied' if u know what i mean!

Colors said...

Rash/RS,
I totally agree with you both on starve diet. Thats something one shouldnt do..and certainly something that I cant do. RS, your POA is great...eat right and exercise right..thats the key! I think I have been eating right..now have to aim on the 2nd part :P

If you like "Style" of all the movies then I really cannot comment on your movie choice..Style was full of cheap jokes.

well hota hai...Americans can like anything .. I found "Socha Na Tha" pretty good and Ayesha looks cute.

Anon (who r u btw?), Style made me laugh atleast(dont say u dont enjoy nv jokes). To each his own. I liked Style, I found SNT boring. Period.

Kaush...lucky you. Are you one of those blessed people who can gorge a tonne and still show nothing?
Yes, I found Ayesha ok...but the hero was aweful. I know he is a Deol.. but he was copying Bobby Deol of all the people!!!!!

Let's start with dieting. Well, I have never gained weight, so I am not sure if I am the right person but here are my suggestions:

1. Eat your meals three times a day. Never miss breakfast as acc. to stats that's the most imp. meal of the day. Just grab say 2 granola bars or muffin and it's good. Also, eat atleast one snack in between. Eat light lunch like sandwhich or soup and heavy dinner (I prefer Indian).

2. If you want to do weights then stick with it because the moment you stop doing it you will gain all the weight in 1 week. That's why I prefer jogging, walking the dog (I should buy my own, how long will my neighbours lent me...ok PJ), play with kids (same goes for kids but instead of buy have them...again a PJ), play some outdoor game (My suggestion tennis or sqaush...though sqaush is not outdoor but it burns lotta calories).

3. If you eat say a very heavy meal like steak or something, excercise more the next day. It's all about moderation. You can eat anything till the time you burn them accordingly.

I know by the way that I am very missable...he he. You had 2 pieces of cake but did you did the treadmill for twice the time too...he he (do one from my side too as I am too lazy...)

Ricky...Thanks for the tips. Dunno if I can follow though. Since many years...(6, 7 ??) I have developed the habit of eating just twice a day. No time for breakfast..so have just lunch and dinner...mostly no evening snacks either. As for weights and sports...err...lets just say I am not a 'sports' person :-) Maybe I'll improve?
