Breaking grounds

Recently while surfing through the channels on TV, I stopped short when I saw Rahul Khanna smiling back at me! They were showing 'Bollywood/Hollywood' on the Sundance Channel. It was a delightful surprise to see an Indian movie on a regular movie channel here. I was doubly delighted coz I hadn't seen this movie earlier. Found the movie to be quite nice and funny. The next day once again I was surfing and this time I saw Rahul Khanna on a different getup. They were now showing 'Earth'. And today, it was 'The Guru' playing on the USA channel!!!

Its really pleasing to see Indian movie breaking grounds into the American homes. I wonder how long will it be before I get to see SRK!!

As I have already told you like upteenth time, but still to make you a little J here it goes again. Every Sunday here they show a Bollywood Movie on a Canadian Channel (Channel M). Last week it was "Pardes" and tomorrow it will be "Calcutta Mail". So, yea I am quite used to see SRKs and Anil Kapoors and Ranis...

Anyways, Bollywood Hollywood was fine (it was a Canadian Movie by the way...yippieeee), I loved 1947 Earth (excellent movie)...still have to watch Guru. I guess, US is still behind UK and Canada in recognising Bollywood coz here when I goto watch a Bollywood movie, white people are in majority esp. if it's a SRK movie...

I guess the US TV will take some time to open up to more commercial films. All the films u mentioned are the 'crossover' ones.

Hey JI, yes...you are first and u get the gold..keep it up and even diamonds would be urs :P. And DJ, I agree these are cross-over movies...but atleast that's a start. Infact Earth is totally in Hindi...lets see how it goes

RS, yeah Ricky told me they show Indian movies often in canada..and I too liked Monsoon Wedding. It was one of the few crossover movies i saw in India.

Anks, yep! I hope they keep showing more good movies.

Hey Rhicha, it is fun to see desi movies here. You know, in Washington DC, they have a channel which show Nepali programs for half an hour every Sunday morning. I enjoy seeing those too, specially when they shows songs etc. :-)

Ricky, yes u have told me how popular Indian movies are in Canada...but then there are so many desis there...almost like India. Though I agree with you, US is behind when it comes to recognising Bollywood. Thats why I am happy that its gradually happening.
You should see 'The Guru'. Its funny.

Nupur, u dont like SRK? I agree he does overact...but still I like him and most of his movies.

Hey Colours, thats nice to hear! Recently I saw in one news site, a pic of 2 German girls (I think it was Germany) holding a placard saying, "Shah Rukh, mujhse shadi karo" or something of that sort...when SRK was visiting the country.
