Minus 30

Folks,

Here's something on my hometown. CNN-IBN does this show called Minus 30 which focuses on the youth of India. Recently they went on a trip to the North East and this video below shows a slice of Gangtok. The piece on Gangtok starts at 56 secs on the video clock. Enjoy!

In case you cannot access the video, here's a direct URL for the same:

Wow!! This is so cool. The ride to Darjeeling reminds me of Mussorie.

The best part of the video was that quaint little bookstore, so cool. The story of the bookstore through Raman the owner was pretty awesome. I have a dream of opening a bookstore in a small town like Gangtok.

The handmade paper factory is pretty cool too and love the passion of the owner. It shows how entrepreneurs like Raman and handmade-paper factory guy, are making difference even if in a small way in small cities and towns of India.

I love the prayer flags and their significance in your culture. Infact, they remind me of Leh/Ladakh, where in the middle of nowhere one would find these prayer flags fluttering that give you a sense of human life in such harsh conditions. Also, they would would give hope in the treacherous journey through the mountains with their prayers that would carry with us and bring everyone safe to their destinations.

This is one of the best videos I saw recently about a small but significant part of India. Thanks for sharing...

Hey Ricky Yeah watching the video did make me feel close to home ;)
Thanks! And don't open store in Gangtok...don't want you as a competitor

Hey Ekta you should make plans to visit the NE then. It'll be an experience of a lifetime.
Yes, the govt is quite supportive of young self employed

Hey Moonie, you can probably catch the show on TV. Or watch old episodes on CNN-IBN website.

LOL...yeah bookstore owner seems to be the most coveted job around here :)

Little too close, I believe ;-)

I also would not like to compete with the best in the business (and am not sure if you have any contact with local goondas there)...lol
