That's AWESOME!! It has all the things that link you too...Sikkim, Nepal and US (Oscars, Grammy).

You should be very proud and its a big achievement for a small state like Sikkim and small country like Nepal to make world-class movies and music.

Also, it was refreshing to hear that Grammies went to Chanting by Monks. The chants are always very spiritual and I find them very calming...:-)

Ricky, congrats!:P
I didnt wanna do word verification as I thought it would be too much of a hassle to post a comment. But I might have to do it after all.
Yep, its the same movie. Thanks for sharing me the news. Yeah I myself didnt know abt the Grammy. Pretty cool, eh? Yes the chants are very soothing. I listen to them once in a while.

Thanks WD! :-)

Hi Chandu thanks! I have few mp3s of the chants. Not sure if they are the same ones that grabbed the Grammy but they are nice to hear. If you want, let me know, and I can email them to you.

Wow. I also feel proud :)

Have you read the novel BasaaiN. We had to read in Intermediate. Really a nice story. A real picture of Nepali village. I think the book is being translated in English too.

And Uttam Pradhan is nice actor. He acted in the Tele serial Mukti and in Darpan ChhaNya too. Have you seen the film. Very nice film. If you want I can send you the film. Directed by Tulsi Ghimire. The Tele serial was also by him and was a super duper hit.

I think you must hear the song "lahanaa le juraayo ki, bahaana le bhetaayo, herinjel ko samjhana, chute pachhi trisana, jindagaani darpan chaaNya......"

Thank you for giving this news :)

Hey SM, no I havent read the novel but now I wish to. Yeah I heard a lot abt Darpan Chhaaya. It was the longest running nepali movie in Sikkim but those days I was in Pune so missed the movie entirely. My mom was all praises about it. I have heard the song a few times. Hey I would love to see the movie...but how will u send?

Hey Nupur , thanks :-) and replied to ur comment in the last post too!

wow...this really is great news and will bring visibility to sikkim and to nepali cinema. not many ppl know that udit narayan (playback singer) used to act in nepali movies. my all time favourite nepali movie is "Samjhana"...the songs were a big hit in darjeeling. i remember when we were kids we spotted tripti - the heroine of 'samjhana' in a car near chowrasta and the whole lot of us picked flowers and ran after the car all the way till North Point :)
